The Legislative Yuan is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of China (Taiwan) located in Taipei. The Legislative Yuan is composed of 113 members, who are directly elected for four-year terms by the people of Taiwan through a parallel voting system. The Constitution of the Republic of China provides that the Legislative Yuan shall be the supreme legislative organization of the State, to be constituted of legislators elected by the people, and it shall exercise legislative power on behalf of the people. In terms of its competence, power, and function, the Legislative Yuan is equivalent to a parliament in other democracies.
